Founded in 1905, Rotary is an international association of more than 1.4 million business and professional leaders in over 200 countries and geographical areas who provide humanitarian service, promote ethical standards, and help build good will and peace in the world.  The Rotary Club of Cleveland was founded in 1910, the 18th Rotary Club to be chartered, and is one of over 32,000 Rotary Clubs world-wide.

Among many worthy programs, Rotary International conducts the world’s largest private scholarship program is a major force in the worldwide fight against polio and other childhood diseases.  For more details on Rotary International, Click Here.

Locally, the Rotary Club of Cleveland serves our community in many ways.  In July 2010 the Club was responsible for bringing the Tall Ships Festival to Cleveland as its gift to the city in honor of its 100th birthday, and again in 2013 were the port organizer for the Tall Ships Festival. A sample of ongoing projects includes:

·         Medal of Valor – for over 40 years, the Club has honored Police, Fire and EMS personnel for their heroic efforts.

·     Thesmacher High School Recognition Day – for more than 45 years, the top high school seniors from each Cleveland Municipal High School are celebrated with a New Generations Conference including motivational speakers and breakout sessions where students are encouraged to discuss their ideas to improve our community with leaders from all segments of our city from the Mayor’s office to the School Board.

·   Annual Business Leadership Awards – recognizing companies who have proven to be outstanding in Training and Development, Quality Service, Entrepreneurship, Global Business and Community Service.

·         Project YESS – Created as a Legacy Program during the Tall Ships Festival, Project YESS provides an educational adventure for high school students ages 14-17 to develop character, leadership and relevant life skills through sail training.

·         College Now! – the Club has provided scholarship support for hundreds of students through what was until recently called the Cleveland Scholarship Program.

·    Vocational Service Awards of Excellence – bestowed upon students at Cleveland State University and Cuyahoga Community College. 

·         Cleveland Food Bank, Inc. – working monthly to assist with food packing and distribution

·       Achievement Centers for Children – the Club was instrumental in founding of the Crippled Children’s Society, which has grown to become this outstanding resource.

·         Greater Cleveland Chapter of the American Red Cross – opportunities to give the gift of life have been held every 56 days for decades.

Internationally, the Club has been involved in humanitarian projects in Laos, Mexico, Pakistan, Uganda, and Indonesia and most recently was instrumental in the development of a pediatric surgical unit in Nairobi, Kenya and provided support to a medical mission to India led by the Association of Indian Physicians of Northern Ohio (AIPNO).
