General Counsel
AYC Security

Daniel Sommers has been General Counsel for over two years with AYC Security, a global full-service private security and intelligence firm and one of the few in the world with in-house counsel with military experience embedded in the command structure of the company.

Prior to this role he launched and managed a successful legal services business for over ten years and has worked as a civil litigator, criminal prosecutor, and criminal defense lawyer, litigating at both trial and appellate courts, including the Supreme Court of Canada. As well, he has served in COO roles and was chairman of the law and ethics working group of the International Society of Military Science.

Before joining AYC Security he also served for almost a decade in the Canadian Army Reserve in the infantry, the cavalry, and with the Office of the Judge Advocate General.

In addition to the foregoing, Mr. Sommers sits on the boards of two non-profits and regularly volunteers to assist Veterans struggling with operational stress injuries. He has trained in boxing and Brazilian Jiujitsu for over fifteen years, is an avid student of history, and enjoys ballroom dancing and competing in practical shooting competitions.

American Red Cross Blood Donor Day, January 30, 2025

The American Red Cross is experiencing an emergency blood shortage
  • The nation faces the lowest number of people giving blood in 20 years. Blood and platelet donations are needed now to help alleviate the shortage and ensure lifesaving medical procedures are not delayed.
  • Over the last 20 years, the number of people donating blood to the Red Cross has fallen by more than 40%.
  • Additional challenges lie ahead as winter weather and seasonal illnesses like the flu and COVID-19 may compound the dire blood supply situation the nation currently faces.
  • Blood products are currently going to hospitals faster than blood donations are coming in. In recent weeks, the Red Cross has had to limit distributions of some of the most transfused blood types to hospitals.
  • Make an appointment to give blood or platelets now by using the Red Cross Blood Donor App, visitingRedCrossBlood.org or calling 1-800-RED CROSS (1-800-733-2767).
