Teaching young people that conflict resolution is the way of the future

For Several years the Cleveland Rotary Foundation has supported Wisdom Addo’s PeaceJam Foundation. This current year our support for the PeaceJam Slam for Upper West Region of Ghana is $15,320.

Wisdom Addo is a Rotary Peace Fellow and the Executive Director at the West Africa Centre for Peace Foundation (WACPF), a non-governmental organization that serves the youth in schools and communities through education on human rights, leadership training, and peacebuilding in Ghana. Wisdom also serves as the Africa Director for the PeaceJam Foundation, USA. His work aimed at providing peace education to the youth and focus on acquiring and advancing capacities, skills, values, and knowledge, thus establishing a global and sustainable peace culture. Wisdom has helped established PeaceJam Ghana affiliate, Nigeria chapter, PeaceJam Uganda chapter, PeaceJam Liberia affiliate through the Gbowee Peace Foundation for Africa and provides support for PeaceJam South Africa affiliate.

In June of 2024 Past Presidents Karen Melton and Julie West traveled to Ghana to see first-hand the prep for the PeaceJam, experience the environment and meet students that are taking part in the program.  This week they will share with us their amazing adventure.

American Red Cross Blood Donor Day, December 5, 2024

The American Red Cross is experiencing an emergency blood shortage
  • The nation faces the lowest number of people giving blood in 20 years. Blood and platelet donations are needed now to help alleviate the shortage and ensure lifesaving medical procedures are not delayed.
  • Over the last 20 years, the number of people donating blood to the Red Cross has fallen by more than 40%.
  • Additional challenges lie ahead as winter weather and seasonal illnesses like the flu and COVID-19 may compound the dire blood supply situation the nation currently faces.
  • Blood products are currently going to hospitals faster than blood donations are coming in. In recent weeks, the Red Cross has had to limit distributions of some of the most transfused blood types to hospitals.
  • Make an appointment to give blood or platelets now by using the Red Cross Blood Donor App, visitingRedCrossBlood.org or calling 1-800-RED CROSS (1-800-733-2767).
