Sgt. Bob retired from the Cleveland Division of Police, and is now Executive Director of the Cleveland Police Athletic League (http://www.clepal.org), this is a fantastic organization that has lots of programs for kids and adults, including athletic programs and community programs. St. Bob will be talking about the Builders of Tomorrow program, this is a program that helps working age kids with apprenticeships, helps place kids in jobs, has a partnership with Ohio Technical School, and also recruits for police and other first responder positions.
 

Mission Statement

  • To provide a safe and fun environment for youths age five to 21 through recreational and athletic activities​

  • Foster positive interactions and relationships between local law enforcement and youth

  • Help keep children out of trouble and focused on becoming good citizens

Both Vocational Service and Community Service will meet 1:00 p.m. Thursday after our meeting

"Service Above Self" Volunteer Opportunities
 
Cleveland State University Dress for Success Event 
Two days of volunteering to set up and assist students who cannot afford interview and work clothes to choose and try on suits, etc. provided by Dress for Success.
This event is well attended and important to the students. While Career Services has instituted a time ticketed process, the demand from students is great and volunteers would really help move the process along, as well as give confidence and encouragement to the young people.
 
When: Wednesday, October 4, 12:00 - 6:00 (grad students come at 3:00)
           Thursday, October 5, 8:00 a.m - 2:30+ (students will start to arrive as
           early as 9:00 a.m.)

St. Augustine Community Cupboard 
They are open 2x per week to allow those in need to receive 15 personal & food items, and 15 clothing items in 2 separate rooms.  The volunteers help with greeting, checking in & out, and navigating the crowd, carrying items for those who need help, sanitizing the grocery baskets used, and stocking shelves, etc.

  • Saturday, December 9th., 2023 from 10:30 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. 
  • Saturday, January 20th., 2023 from 10:30 a.m. - 2:00 p.m.

Painting at the Merrick House has been rescheduled - Mark your calendars now! 
What:  Help paint 2 large daycare rooms at the Merrick House
When: Both Friday November 17th 6:00 - 9:00 p.m. and Saturday
           September 18th, 9:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. 
Where: Merrick House located at 1050 Starkweather Ave. CLE  44113
Details: We will have all of the painting supplies, only thing needed is
             disposable gloves if you prefer. Please let the Rotary office know if
             you can help!
