Join us March 25th for the open house/volunteer event!
What type of computers are accepted?
• PCs and Laptops that when refurbished/repaired can run Windows 10..
• Working LCD Monitors – flat screens (no CRTs please)
• Working printers and other peripherals like speakers, scanners, tablets
• USB devices, mice power cords
• Equipment donated that does not meet the standards or cannot be repaired will be responsibly recycled, but they are not a collection point of old junk.
If I donate my computer, how do I know my information is safe?
Should I take out the hard drive?
We ask that donors do NOT cannibalize the PC by removing RAM or hard drives. We overwrite the entire surface of the hard drive three times with a random series of zeros and ones to a Department of Defense specification. This has been sufficient for hospitals, banks, hotels, etc. It's always a good practice to delete data and/or wipe the drive before donating a PC, but we will do that again thoroughly upon receipt. We do not save anything – OS, programs, data – from the PC. We overwrite and then load a legal copy of Windows on the blank hard drive so donor’s data is safe.
We are People of Action!
March 2nd we honored the top seniors, "the Who's Who," from Cleveland Metropolitan School District, at our 45th Annual Thesmacher High School Recognition Day, New Generations Conference. We began the day with a Workforce Development Showcase, with 15 businesses/educational institutions in attendance, Ted Ginn Sr., head football coach, Glenville HS, addressed the students later in the morning, our students then broke out into groups facilitated by Rotarians and community leaders to discuss important issues they experience on a daily basis, we capped off with both a panel of students from each group reporting out to the audience, over 200 people and CMSD CEO Eric Gordon addressing the students concerns. Click the link below to hear Mr. Gordon's remarks
Good Knights is a local non profit that builds and assembles twin beds or kids that don't have one. We have another opportunity to help assemble 20 beds in various homes. DETAILS ON THE DATE WILL BE FORTHCOMING!
