"Project YESS truly brought our students to new horizons of leadership and exploration. As their teacher I see them using the leadership skills they developed through the camps and on the ship.” ~ Angela Yeager, St. Martin de Porres High School

This experience was the greatest thing that I've ever done. I love that I knew this people for less than two months before I went on this trip with them, yet it was like they were my family.  Living in such a small space for a week was a little bit difficult to adjust to, but the people that I met made it so much easier!  My favorite part was getting to sail through a channel on July 4th and getting to sleep on deck and see the fireworks with all of my friends.  I would definitely do this again. -Izzy 2016 YESS Sailor

My favorite part of the Project YESS trip was taking the night watches and being able to see all the stars and the moon. It was an amazing experience to see so many shooting stars in a night.  - Bridgette 2016 YESS Sailor

Before I embarked on Project YESS, I had only been sailing once before and the crew and other sailors were complete strangers to me. Little did I know that I would call these people my friends that I would trust with my life and that I would develop a passion for sailing and adventure. I am so fortunate to be able to say that I steered a tall ship under the Mackinaw Bridge, sailed with so many amazing people and crew and had the adventure of a lifetime. Project YESS taught me so many life lessons that I will keep in my heart as I take on life after leaving the S/V Dennis Sullivan. While participating on this journey, I learned patience, not to judge others and about the maritime world that is right outside of our door on Lake Erie, but not nearly explored enough. The sight of the sunrise on the horizon after seven hours in the darkness or the shooting stars will be memories I will treasure forever. The crew and chaperones were so amazingly smart, kind and understanding. I will be forever grateful to have participated in Project YESS and I hope to return next year. – Sarah 2016 YESS Sailor

When I first heard of my acceptance into Project YESS, I didn't know what to expect. After the first land-base training, I knew that this program would change my life. During the first land-based training I was hesitant at first but soon realized that the people there were going to help me and that I had nothing to worry about. Throughout the next few land-based training events, I grew closer to both my fellow students and the chaperones. Once we boarded the ship my mind was filled with wonder. I marveled at about everything I saw. After we had untied from the dock and began sailing I couldn't believe that I was sailing on a Lake Erie tall ship. All through the journey things just kept getting better. Another thing that I encountered along the trip were several great people that I hope will be lifelong friends. I am so grateful for the opportunity that I received; I feel that it truly changed me for the better in almost every way. Some of the lifelong skills that I feel that I learned during my journey were teamwork, leadership, respect and overall a better work ethic. And for all of those things, I am truly grateful.

The amazing things that I experienced aboard the ship were memories I will keep with me for the rest of my life. It was astonishing to sail across the great lakes and learn how to manage and operate a boat. This experience has really made me want to sail more and learn all there is to know about our great lakes.
